Why Montessori?

EMCC serves young learners in a beautiful, clean and peaceful Montessori-inspired environment. Our teachers, who we call guides, take great pride in our school, and make a significant effort to create a prepared and engaging environment for our children.

We follow Dr. Maria Montessori’s six principles for preparing our school environment:

Freedom

We strive to make every environment as accessible as possible to the small child, to encourage the development of their independence, practical life skills and self-confidence. We also believe in a child’s right to choose their activities and paths, and honor their interests and individuality.

Structure and Order

We follow routines and create environments that are rich in order and structure, so that the children in our care know what to expect, develop confidence, and know how to help care for the environment.

Beauty

Our school is clean, uncluttered, and organized. We utilize beautiful, high quality materials and prioritize beautiful and diverse art and music in our spaces. We incorporate plants, texture, and other rich tactile materials in our spaces.

Nature and Reality

Young children learn best through hands-on play and real experiences. We play outside, interact with natural materials, explore, and incorporate real-life activities into our spaces.

Social Environment

Our youngest learners are just beginning to develop their social and emotional skills that will serve them throughout their lives. We develop empathy and compassion through environments that encourage freedom of interaction. We model peaceful interactions with children and each other.

Intellectual Environment

We aim to create an environment that is intellectually stimulating and follows the interests and needs of each child as they grow and learn in our classrooms. We frequently rotate materials, and utilize The Creative Curriculum to help foster engaging intellectual development in our school.
